IDC structure

The IDC is typically split into three parts:

  • Assistant Instructor (AI) + Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program
  • EFR Instructor (EFRI) program
  • Instructor Examination (IE) (run by a PADI Examiner)


We also offer optional Specialty Instructor add-on courses, including Enriched Air, Emergency Oxygen Provider, Deep Diver, and more. Ask us for the complete list of specialties available.


Become a dive instructor

What you will learn during these 12 days course


Knowledge development & standards

You’ll build the instructor-level understanding needed to teach safely and correctly:

  • Teaching system & PADI standards (what you must do / may do / must not do)
  • Dive theory (physics, physiology, RDP / eRDPml, equipment, skills & environment)
  • Risk management, duty of care, incident prevention and professionalism
  • Business of diving: course flow, customer care, and real instructor workflow

Confined water teaching workshops

You’ll practice how to teach in the pool / confined water environment:

  • Briefing structure (clear, logical, student-friendly)
  • Skill demonstrations (slow motion, exaggeration, perfect positioning)
  • Student control, problem solving and corrective teaching
  • Rescue & safety management as an instructor

Open water teaching presentations

This is where everything becomes “real instructor mode”:

  • Open water organization, control, navigation and timing
  • Teaching presentations with realistic student issues
  • Rescue assessment & problem management in open water
  • Professional-level diver supervision and control

Preparation for the Instructor Examination (IE)

We train you for the IE format and performance requirements:

  • Exam technique for dive theory & standards exams
  • Polishing skill demonstrations and teaching flow
  • Mock presentations and feedback to remove weaknesses early
  • Confidence building: calm, clear, consistent performance
